How To Show Custom Fields in Search Results

In the following OnContact CRM training video, we will be going through a step-by-step guide on how to insert a custom header field in search results.

Welcome to OnContact CRM training. For this video we will learn how to display a custom header field in search results. We will show the legacy system column in the company search.

The legacy system column is a custom field added in the OnContact CRM video titled adding custom header fields with extended properties.

The following process is identical for contact, incident and opportunity searches and is available to all users. To do this in the work space area:

  1. Click new search and then company.
  2. Click the options button located on the middle toolbar.
  3. Click select columns from the drop-down and the select columns dialog will open.
  4. Click the triangle next to company to show company columns.
  5. Click the legacy system column to add it to the search results.
  6. Click ok on the Select columns dialog and you will be returned to the company search where the legacy system column will now appear.

Other custom and non custom columns can be shown in this same fashion. To retain your layout changes, click the middle toolbar options button again and click Save preferences. This will keep your column layout after logging out and logging back in. The column layout may be changed and saved in this manner at any time. Note that layout changes are a user preference. Other users will have to do the same steps to see their column and search results or your CRM administrator can make the change available to some or all users.
