Food trucks are having a major moment in the United States today. These mobile sources of cuisine make picnics a culinary event! Especially since the pandemic has restricted the ability to dine in restaurants, food trucks are a great option, allowing people to meet friends and maintain social distancing. Even before COVID-19, food trucks were gaining popularity as casual options that represent the ultimate local experience.
The marketing around these mobile restaurants is interesting to observe. They rely heavily on social media and feedback from local people. Food trucks tend to partner with local businesses such as breweries or stores to work in tandem to draw in customers. It’s a brilliant way to combine forces and attract the maximum amount of people. Everyone loves food!
At WorkWise, we’re fascinated by engaging local customers and how local businesses reinforce that relationship. So we decided to look into how you could engage with the food truck trend best in each state. Using Google Trends, we looked at which types of food trucks were most popular and what popular food trucks had gotten noticed beyond the locals based on national search volume. You can see what we found out below!
Of course, just because you’re looking for a food truck doesn’t mean you don’t have a preference for the cuisine you’ll be enjoying. Accordingly, we looked at the most popular food truck types to see which states tend to go for which type of food trucks the most. Overwhelmingly, Americans love their barbecue and want to get it from local trucks parked where they can spread out and enjoy a particularly messy meal outdoors! Seventeen states had barbecue as their most popular food truck type. Close behind was comfort food, followed by Asian and Fusion food. Shockingly, Mexican food trucks have dropped to the bottom of the search volume list. Apparently, taco trucks have had their moment and people are looking for the next big thing!
Some states are more into the food truck scene than others. Based on the search term “food trucks”, states had varying search volumes indicating interest in these local food options. You can check out how your state stacks up below!
