ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) software has had an innovative and influential past. Over many decades of development, each advance has made managing business processes easier and more efficient. It is not until recently, with the incredible growth of other software such as CRM and mobile apps, that ERP is slowly becoming more reactionary.

As for the future of ERP, there are three contributors that should play a significant role in the further development of ERP software. Let’s take a look at these three.

1: HUGE, not big data
Data is constantly growing because companies are looking to gather more outside information, have more detailed tracking of what they have, and more specific goals requiring unique information. ERP is constantly advancing in the sense of utilizing and organizing this information in better ways to benefit companies.

2: IoT (Internet of Things)
IoT refers to the ability of technology to transfer data over a network without human interaction. For example, if you wear a GPS watch that can track how far you ran, you can access the mileage and more information on your run on your computer when you finish (without having to do anything). For ERP software, this means that tools, vehicles, and any machines can upload data and numbers the company would want to track to better track areas for improvement, unused assets, maintenance issues, and other related issues.

3: Wearable Technology
Speaking of a GPS watch, technology that is mobile, that you can wear is also becoming more desired. Particularly, a tool like Google Glass (easy portable and does not require user to make any changes to him/herself) can have many benefits to a company using ERP. For example, they can monitor things like UV exposure, excessive heat, and overall order of a location with various tools and products.
