Considering the many facets of implementing a new ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) software, training the users is one that is often overlooked until it is needed. Regardless of whether it is cloud or on premise, your user count, or complexity of the solution, it is critical you give each user enough training to get the most out of the ERP solution. Here are four tips on how to make the training efficient and effective.
1: Communicate early and often with the ERP vendor and the users.
Establishing a timeline for training can be a good way to stay on track and monitor progress. Staying up to date with the trainers and trainees can help to see what is working well and what needs adjusting, for both the current training and for any future hires.
2: Review and adjust training materials.
Make sure training materials are thorough to explain the ‘why’ and reasoning behind things. It makes it easier for people to remember and will be easier to pass onto others as well. Focus in on the most immediate needs for each person at first, and then work on cross-training later.
3: Use multiple training methods.
Before making the final decision, what training methods are available and what you will do should be discussed. There are many methods: one-on-one, web videos, live chat, classroom teaching, etc. Different methods will work better for different users so the more options the better.
4: Make training a priority.
The users are ultimately going to decide whether or not the ERP solution is a success. They need the tools and knowledge to know how to best utilize the software for the company’s procedures and processes. Do not take training lightly and make sure all users are getting what they need.
